The year truly flew by.  It was filled with many obstacles including trying to navigate Covid as well as Hurricane Ida, but we have finally made it to the finish line. Despite the craziness, it was an amazing year. I could not think of a better program to have participated in. Not only did I learn so much, but I was able to foster new relationships and make life long friends along the way, all while being able to stay in the amazing city that I have called home now for the last

As we move into April, many of our classes are starting to wrap up. I can’t describe how much I have enjoyed this program. I have learned so much and feel like the material we were taught is going to be immensely useful in medical school. Now every time I am watching TV and a drug commercial comes on, I find myself constantly sort of quizzing myself as many of the drugs are ones we have studied this year. As we approach the opening of the next application cycle, things have definitely been busy, but I am excited to see what the f

Overall, the program has been great. Last week, we had the opportunity to participate in another simulation session. This time it revolved around narcotics and other pain medications. Just as last time, I really enjoyed it and felt like it truly helped me better understand the material. Being able to apply what we learn in class to real life situations in the simulation lab greatly helps me master the material better. Rather than just looking over my notes and memorizing the different drugs, relating all of it

January Blog

January: 0 hours          As we head into this week, we are starting back in person tomorrow. It has definitely been a roller coaster this last month with major surges in Covid cases across the country and we have all had to adjust. While it felt eerily like March 2020 all over again, I am really looking forward to being back in the classroom and getting back together with the class. So far, this semester has been great. I have enjoyed all of our new classes and look forward to the material we plan to cover over these next few months. May, while still 3 months away, is going to get here much faster than we all know. With this program, many of us preparing for the MCAT, and then eventually beginning applications in the summer, we all have a packed schedule. Every day we are closer and closer to achieving our dream of medical school and while the road may seem long, I am truly excited for what my future holds. Looking ahead for this semester it looks like we have a ton planned regard

December Blog

December: 6.15 Fall Cumulative: 12.15   As we are heading into winter break, I found myself reflecting back on the first semester that I am shocked is already almost over. It has been another year filled with one obstacle after another. With Hurricane Ida, the subsequent evacuations, and the continued fight against the coronavirus, this semester was like no other. However, despite all the challenges, I am grateful we were able to continue the program in a pretty much normal fashion. I have sincerely enjoyed every minute and have made amazing new friends along the way, all while being able to live in the city I love and have called home these last 4 years.               For my service this month I did a few things. First, I again had the opportunity to create homemade holiday cards to be sent out to foster children. Instead, this time they were Christmas-themed. Along with a few other classmates, we were able to make a solid amount. While I may not be the most artistic person, my hope i

So far, I have greatly enjoyed the program. These last 4 weeks have really been quite interesting. At the start of the month during the cardiovascular module, we had the chance to participate in a simulation at the med school’s simulation lab. This was an awesome learning experience that in my opinion significantly helped me better understand the material. The CV module was especially dense and at times, remembering all the different drugs was difficult. Though, being able to see how certain drugs affected the body in real-time in the simulation lab made a huge difference. Further, it was cool putting all the information we have learned through

This is something I have been doing since I was an undergrad at Tulane. I was first introduced to the bank by a family friend and ever since I have made an effort to try and take as many shifts throughout the year as I can. When volunteering with them, there are 2 main shifts, the packaging center, and the community kitchen. I personally enjoy working in the community kitchen prepping meals that are to be sent out to various schools, shelters, and long-term care facilities throughout the area. Louisiana has been hit hard these last couple of
